Renee Herrell is a Certified Fund Raising Professional (CFRE) and holds a Masters in nonprofit leadership and management from the University of San Diego. As a consultant for the past four years and a development professional four years previous, Ms. Herrell has worked with many nonprofit organizations focusing on capital campaigns and major gift fundraising. Her past and present clients include Boys and Girls Club, Junior Achievement, The Arc of San Diego, Behavioral Diabetes Institute and the Foundation for Women. Through professional and volunteer experience, Ms. Herrell has acquired a diverse background in fundraising and program development including experience in capital campaigns, major gifts, annual fund, grant writing, corporate relations, event coordination, donor relations and volunteer recruitment, training and supervision.
Recently, Ms. Herrell helped the Boys & Girls Clubs complete a $17 million capital campaign. Working with Junior Achievement, Ms. Herrell implemented the quiet phase of the campaign, helped the organization confirm their lead gift of $1 million and trained the board and staff on how to cultivate, solicit and steward campaign donors. With the Foundation for Women, Ms. Herrell initiated the major gifts program that resulted in raising $90,000 (almost 1/3 of the organization’s annual budget) in 30 days. At the Behavioral Diabetes Institute, Ms. Herrell implemented the first-ever fundraising effort, raising over $70,000 in the first year, double that amount the following year and with a fundraising projection of $300,000 for this year.
As an instructor at UCSD Extension, Ms. Herrell teaches in the fundraising and development program. She enjoys creating discussion among students as well as instilling development fundamentals in creative ways.
Over five years ago, Ms. Herrell founded the San Diego Women Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization, and spent countless hours building a solid foundation and infrastructure for the organization. She developed and implemented the fundraising plan, drafted and executed the board development plan, crafted the fiscal policies, created all of the programs, hired and managed staff and volunteers and oversaw the board of trustees, the honorary board and the advisory committee. She currently sits on the Board of Trustees.
Ms. Herrell received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California,
Santa Barbara in English with High Honors, a Certificate in Fundraising and
Development from the University of California, San Diego and a Masters in
Nonprofit Leadership at the University of San Diego.
